For over 46 years I have seen some of the most interesting and unique items come to market. Some are fads that come and go. Others are classic, time tested, tried and true. Another category is the new modern classic. Items that have a unique feel, look or quality but the classic design and taste that allows them to survive for years to come. This new modern classic is how I describe a wonderful collection we are showcasing at William Glen: The Phillips Collection by Yuri Zatarain.
Over the past twenty years, Mark and Julie Phillips have displayed a striking skill for discovery, from one-of-a-kind treasures to new trends. Starting in Southeast Asia and continuing on to Africa, Latin America, Europe and the Pacific Rim, they’ve searched the world for exciting products for their design-oriented customers. Today, The Phillips Collection continues to define global style for the contemporary market. With the same spirit of innovation, they discover design and designers, and match them with an incredible range of production resources developed over decades of travel.
The Phillips Collection thrives on consumer-driven execution of innovative new concepts. With new categories and new materials, each market features products that can be found nowhere else. Taking ceramic vases into the realm of sculpture, creating striking combinations of unexpected materials, and bringing a designer’s eye to a museum collection, The Phillips Collection is the conduit for a wide range of fresh ideas filtered through a sense for the market and connection to the customer. As such, they are uniquely positioned to meet the needs and expectations of their design-oriented clients.
Combining exciting concepts, talented designers, skillful producers and a dedicated support staff, The Phillips Collection is a creative collaboration that mixes concept, craftsmanship and marketing to bring beautiful home furnishings and accessories into sophisticated homes around the world.

Featured on WilliamGlen.com are works by Yuri Zatarain. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Yuri Zatarain is an artist whose work has been exhibited in galleries around the world. Trained as a painter, he became involved with a small ceramics workshop when he wanted to design a new collection of sculptural pieces. Several years later, he has become the creative force behind an extensive collection of decorative ceramics created for the Phillips Collection and distributed around the world.
Yuri’s work is surrounded by feeling; there is a yearning to discover something new in the essence of the old. He finds inspiration in nature and natural forms, and in the cultures of traditional societies. His designs capture a feeling he describes as “ethnic chic,” combining a global sensibility with a contemporary aesthetic. His materials are natural — clay, wood and iron — used thoughtfully and in keeping with his artistic ideals.
